A Child Who Grew In A Womb

A Child Who Grew In A Womb

A Poem by Penulis Kecil
"

In honour of Pregnancy & Infant Loss Awareness - and of course, my own two children gone too soon. Elyssami Faith & Mykelti Noah.

"

I am a child who grew in a womb

surrounded by love

in this, the tiniest of rooms.

Everything she could, my mama gave

it breaks her heart, I know,

but I'm proud to have a mama so brave.

At nights sometimes, under the moon

her dreaming heart calls,

crying the most persuasive tune.

I'll visit her then, we'll laugh and we'll play

our hearts ache together,

when day comes I cannot stay.

I am a child who grew in a womb

surrounded by love

in this, the tiniest of rooms.

There's only one thing left I still have to say

please take after my mama,

do not forget me-- I beg you, speak my name.

Penulis Kecil
I know I don't normally do rhyme, and that there's a good reason for that, but this one kept at me, especially the repetition of the 'ay' and the 'oom/oon' sounds.

'surrounded by love

it is not often that i am reduced to tears but your poem left me moved and thinking about what might have been. very difficult to lose a baby in this way though i am sure they would have known love in this world such is the close bond between mother and baby and i think that is what your poem teaches us. fantastic.
