A Poem by Phil Hubbard

After a lengthy marriage faded away, someone found me.

You didn't tell me
you had blue eyes
she said when we met
She had checked me
out on the net
as savvy girls do and
found I was available
and overdue for a hug

She picked me out
of the line-up.
a thousand faces
some too near or too far
some too good to be true
some a match
some with no clue

After decades of marriage
that deflated more than ended
I was an empty building
decaying both inside and out
pilot light set on low
expectations even lower

She was a maiden
whose passion for life
burned brightly
who gave her love
her devotion
her trust
only to find
it was not enough

For years she thought
her one true love
had died in the war
the only reason to explain
why she was left alone
empty years ahead

In her darkest hour
God whispered
seek and you shall find
she found me
almost invisible
spark wavering

We nurtured each other
finding love
and peace
and contentment
and the feeling
it was always
meant to be

Well, it seems there are some happy endings after all. A nice tribute to not despairing here.
