Summertime Wine

Summertime Wine

A Poem by N.Sevilla
"

Staying inside the house while Summer goes on outside

"

Smooth jazz, a window seat,

A slim, dim red glass of wine-

Divine in its rich, deep taste.

A constant hum in the back.

Cool air curling around the room.

We could assume it’s winter

The way the blankets are bunched.

We know it’s not

It’s hot; heat rising from pavements,

Distorting cars driving by.

Too hot for kids to hide.

Ice cream cones melting quick

Dropping down like flies.

Windows shake with the sounds

Cars with no bounds, thumping along.

We’re playing jazz in this icy air.

Saxophones playing caramel sweet

Viscous like the lazy heat.

Out there, our eyes stray

And we sip wine in the summer time.
