Zeus the Chihuahua

5/21/2022 - Long overdue for the little love of my life.

I think of you every day,

remembering how you were.

Your sweet puppy eyes

and your soft black and white fur.

Thinking of your silly bark,

trying to act tough.

And even though you were small,

you liked to play rough.

 

You left way too soon,

at not even ten years old.

From a disease I didn’t know you had

and could not have been foretold.

Little love of my life,

how I miss you so.

My only wish

is that you didn’t go.

This is the first poem I have written in close to a decade probably. It is for my dog that I lost back in November. I figured that my first piece after so long should be to him.

This is an endearing poem that had me thinking of my own two soft and sweet furry cats. They're such a part of my life and I hope they live for decades. I couldn't bear it otherwise. Your little dog was beautiful and I hope he is in a heaven on the other side of the rainbow bridge.

I definitely know this feeling, I lost my best friend earlier this year. She was kind of old but still very spry. I miss her every day. Her name was Phoebe and she was a Rat Terrier/Chihuahua mix. She had the cutest smile.

The loss of a loving pet is a personal tragedy
A fellow in our area had his truck stolen while his Chihuahua was inside
The only thing he cares about is getting his dog back

Call them a different species if you will, but when a beloved pet passes on, it is the loss of a family member. I have two aging cats, and I am enjoying their company while I still can.
