It wasn't you...

It wasn't you...

A Poem by Poetic Justice
"

lie to everyone else but never lie to yourself.

"

As she boarded the train, she turned and smiled

And for a moment all your fears dissipated

Who said she didn’t love you?

An overzealous mother, a jealous friend

And what measure was love?

A missed call, an interrupted liaison

You knew her, you knew what she meant

When she told you she wasn’t ready

She still loved you,

She told you so..

And that smile, broke a thousand hearts

But not yours, you had her heart and she had yours

You watched the train pull out of the station

Waited on the platform for a last glance

While she, head down, texting

And it wasn’t you....

A touch of Poetic Justice...such a romantic train station moment. Bravo

Gawd you always just write straight into my soul! No mercy, go right for the heart and slay with no remorse! It's the subtlety that impinges so, and the gentleness with which the pain is pointed out. Not a harsh jab into the wound but just a delicate touch with the tip of some dulled pointer, a reminder that for all the efforts to forget and ignore the rent in ones emotional fabric hasn't really fully mended...

I like the voice of this prose, a sadly detached air about it and yet a coldly analytical, practiced accuracy. The facts of life COME TO LIFE in your writing. You exercise the gift of reality which is precious to the reader, even when it bites!

Ever watch that movie Serendipity? For some reason your poem reminded me of this. Missed chances...wrong time wrong place...all the what if's. We like to think we know who we are and what we are, but when really we are only just a perception of someone else's reality. A great write. xo

Unrequited love, wonderfully expressed.

Texting... wrong number, wrong time... nothing better than lips.
