Downturned Gaze

Downturned Gaze

A Poem by Tyler James Mathieson
"

Just written, want some feedback

"
You ask me for a simple thing
No strings attached, no conditions
I don't know it I can try again
I have my deep suspicions I have been fooled too many times
I just can't seem to move
What have I got anyway
No real way to improve
You turn to me, expectantly
Yet I am at a loss
This is one thing I cannot do
A line that I can't cross
I offer you a downturned gaze
A heart that comes pre-broken
I do not have anything of worth
Just words that can't be spoken
Yet your hand caresses mine
Gentle beyond belief
You know this pain I feel inside
And that fills me with relief
You raise my chin and meet my gaze
There's a glowing in your eyes
You've been hurt before, I see
Beaten down and told lies
Yet something there is different
You don't shrink like me
There must be a way
To love and not to flee
I guess that I will try to love
And let myself be open
I will let doubt run away
And i will bring some hope in

I liked the flow, its a fun style to read, maybe you could add a couple lines to the end to "bring it home"?

It's good, i guess, but i think you should try being more specific. It seems kind of vague, but great effort!
