Empty

Empty

A Poem by Tyler James Mathieson
"

Not my best and I tried a different rhyming scheme and I don't think it worked. I will work on refining this one but just wondering if the concept comes across well enough to continue on with it.

"
To understand empty, one must once have been full.
To know what you're missing, you need something to miss.
I thought I knew lonely, it was my old friend.
But I never fell this hard, I never felt this.
I thought I'd forgotten, and I thought I'd moved on.
But the truth is I haven't and I cannot forget.
How your arms wrapped around me and made me feel safe.
Now I'm alone in this dark room and I'm filled with regret.
As I lay here alone my heart fills with despair.
I'm beat up and broke down, who could want me now?
People tell me there's a way out, a rope I can climb
Theses a way to start over, my only question is, how?
They say just move on, it's over, just quit
And that's easy to say from the outside of this.
They don't know what we went through
They can't feel what I feel they don't miss what I miss.
