Pressing Wildflowers

After Autumn,

we can play in leaves

as wishes fall

 

into Winter;

pressing my wildflowers

into pages saved for Spring

when my words bloom

into bouquets 

like the one I held two summers ago 

as multi - colored petals listened

 

to vows whispered 

in a clandestine chapel;

golden promises glistening

like these leaves, swirling love;

our eyes whispering forever

whatever the season.

I grew up at a remote recreational area & had to ride the bus an hour each way to school. My life revolved around summer, which was when all the cool people came out to the lake & made life fun. Your poem brings it all back for me . . . not just the significance of the various summers, but also the contrast of all the other seasons of structure, against the summer of freedom & expression & abundance.
