Obsidian’s Treasure

Obsidian’s Treasure

A Poem by Poetic Beauty

Dragon’s Treasure

The Obsidian dragon
Keeper of broken souls
Watches with protective care
Never losing his control

His lair a volcanic abyss
Where onyx diamond shimmer
Reflecting vanilla moonlight
A world muted, not dimmer

Shadows dance in Lima’s glow
As steely eyes notice all
A slight stirring from a maiden
Curled up in a tiny ball

Captures his full attention
As she stretches in slumber
Sighing in peaceful content
Her life he won’t encumber

A danger comes without warning
Threatening her inner peace
A predator with azule eyes
Demanding she be released

Obsidian’s roar echoes anger
Vibrating off the onyx cave
As violence stings the air
His unique treasure he must save

Bellowing Fire come to light
His leathery tail snaps and sways
Blows directed at the creature
It contorts out of the way

Bound to the darkest shadows
The predator slips into the night
Silently slipping through the hole
Retreating not ready to fight.

enjoyable read just for the words, images, rhymes but makes me wonder about possible metaphors. On the surface an intro to a mythical adventure but hints at more. perhaps the beginning of a series ? puts me in mind of such stories as Orpheus and Eurydice, shades of Persephone, or Greek tragedy of Antigone. Very intriguing write. - carl

PB,
Is it every damsel's dream to be held hostage by a dragon and rescued by a prince? Even Beowulf couldn't manage a trick like that. Some chicks just don't realize how good they've got it...

I love dragons and many mythical creatures
From fire comes desire. Maidens and dragons all seem sexually charged in a way.

Very true of dragons
Uhm, I never thought I'd say this, but I miss your mature warnings, because this was totally scary biscuits and it really is quite difficult to type on your phone when you're stuck under your bed, holding your breath in case that predator tries to barbecue my butt!
I should have known I was in proper growed up land with the line "A world muted, not dimmer", but on I carried, but never fear... I'm sure I'll be able to slap myself down to just a slight panic before beddy byes time.
In my head I edited this to have an end line of "but they all lived happily ever after!"

I’m glad you liked the imagery in this piece. Thank you
cams back after thought - maybe Stockholm syndrome, maybe it's the plain fact that all dragons are not evil and maybe some blue eyed rescuers are really predators, I mean the maiden is in peaceful slumber. In any event nice piece of work - carl
