With centuries of tears, I’ll turn my back

On women and woe, drama and complication

Those cruel judgments

Water down my back, I am the reed

 

I’ll strut the earth like a Buddhist

I’ll bow to you like a Hindu

I’ll find trance like a Sufi

I’ll become a recluse like a Taoist

 

I’ll doubt your faith like a Secularist

Declaring a bitter strike against the sexes

And when I return to you

My heart will be universal

 

And I won’t seek to scavenge you

Like an organism, but understand you

Like a spirit, soul to soul, being to being.
