Semblance

Semblance

A Poem by Pete
"

What preys on my mind is simply this one question: what am I good for, could I not be of service or use in some way? We are surrounded by poetry on all sides ... - Vincent Van Gogh

"
Essay: Van Gogh’s “Self-Portrait” (1887) at the Art Institute of Chicago

There was an unhinged man who held a brush and spilled pieces of his soul onto canvas one stroke at a time.
Conquering fear.
Sacrificing an ear.
Who are we that we move our fingers over a keyboard?
Holding words and feelings captive.
Our hearts nonadaptive.
Art is intensely sharing what's inside.
Truthfully but wide eyed ...

"truthful but wide eyed" .. yes indeed! your poem inspires the image of writers everywhere releasing their "art" through those fingers and keys ... impressive image ... most all can recognize right away .. and your tribute is spot on .. i think you captured his tortured life in a snapshot .. not easy to do .. thanks for sharing Pete ... he was an artist for sure :(
