Memory Laps(e)

True friendship can afford true knowledge. It does not depend on darkness and ignorance. - Thoreau

Diabetes and Memory Loss

i knew you

before you were missing a tooth
before you started changing clothes in a telephone booth
long ago when you used to tell the truth

before you turned cool
when you used to pee in the pool
and drool like a fool

back when you knelt in a pew
and had a clue
not sure what to do
long before your soul turned black and blue

a time when you drew the curtain on the confessional
weren't so skeptical
were much more flexible
and ran the innocence festival

back when you were real
full of zeal
and could still feel
walking steady on a banana peel

before your picket fence was missing a slat
and your spare tire was flat
before your head and rear-end got fat
just thought i'd mention that

before your rolled sod was covered with morning dew
through and through
unable to misconstrue

i knew you

adios
arrivederci
sayonara
adieu

whew

who?

Author's Note

Pete
“My desire for knowledge is intermittent; but my desire to bathe my head in atmospheres unknown to my feet is perennial and constant. The highest that we can attain to is not Knowledge, but Sympathy with Intelligence. I do not know that this higher knowledge amounts to anything more definite than a novel and grand surprise on a sudden revelation of the insufficiency of all that we called Knowledge before,—a discovery that there are more things in heaven and earth than are dreamed of in our philosophy.” - Thoreau

Well...another gem in da box💎Regarding the Lower T quote...in Judaism the brightest form of knowledge is loving kindness...which rests on the core principle of the Bible Love Your Neighbor which sounds easy but is not based on the observation of our current world condition🌏🌎🌍

Hello Pete, what an amazing write. Your posted artwork too, really struck a chord. It really summed up dementia to me and what happens to those poor brain cells. Your lines are well penned and are thought provoking. Thank you for sharing.
