Night Light

Night Light

A Poem by Pete
"

By my intimacy with nature I find myself withdrawn from man. My interest in the sun and the moon, in the morning and the evening, compels me to solitude. - Thoreau

the sun lies down in a moral malaise
as the blinds are pulled down on another spent day
leaving the change on the dresser of the horizon
a primordial moon dons its pensive pajamas
its shiny, bald head like an overflowing goblet of fine wine
an eclectic, electric ball in a now empty disco hall
hugging and kissing what's left of the skyline
clouds occasionally drift by like the benevolent, bated breath of angels
nowhere else to go but to this nocturnal show

stars swagger a scintillating lullaby
like champagne bubbles from a popped cork of drowsy dreams
the tired head of sleepy innocence bobbing up and down like porcelain horses in a celestial merry-go-round
trying to stay awake
each kissing a crimson canopy of firmament like untethered kites
their mascaraed eyes blinkling
lipsticked lips puckered with the kiss of eternity
tucking in faith and embracing all that which is good and right
comforting hearts and focusing hindsight
all that which makes lives bright

goodnight
sleep tight
don't let the bedbugs bite

remember to leave on the light

"If the day and the night are such that you greet them with joy, and life emits a fragrance like flowers and sweet-scented herbs, is more elastic, more starry, more immortal - that is your success." - Thoreau

LOVE the alliteration here. Absolutely. This is a favorite piece for sure. It has a dancing feeling to it, then I saw the Jane's addiction and it made me laugh. I get it. The connection is real. There's just something about the night....
A favorite for sure. Thanks for sharing your wonderful work!

You described the night very nicely and the replacement of the moon when it's time down to the light of the night, a very lovely piece. Thank you for sharing

YOU'RE WELCOME, POSTED POETRY IS MEANT TO BE APPRECIATED
So strikingly written...I was snared and lost in the line "stars swagger a scintillating lullaby". I kept coming back to that line and finding myself seeing exactly that. You are a poetic master.
