in but the wink of an eye
blink of two
tunnel of duration
through and through
breeze of brevity
wind of tired ages
sweeping away sand and turning yellowed pages
leaving me behind
dragging me away
robbing night
cheating day
dimension of chances
choreographer of life's dances
ruler of seasons
offering neither explanations nor reasons

over and over seconds ticked
perfumed motion of perfection sometimes standing still or nicked
second or century
ocean or puddle
pouring out essence in  singularity or marching double
not against but for
lifting ceilings and raising the floor
never knowing what's in store
spending a day with credit for more
buying eternity and receiving change from a tossed dime
waiting in line for the perfect rhyme
'cuz

forever is a mighty long time

Author's Note

Pete
“Time is but the stream I go a-fishing in. I drink at it; but while I drink I see the sandy bottom and detect how shallow it is. Its thin current slides away, but eternity remains. I would drink deeper; fish in the sky, whose bottom is pebbly with stars.” - Thoreau

"second or century" I used the same exact words in some previous poem of mine. live the moment, live day by day, don't think of forever or eternity it might weight heavy on You, and that's how You live your best, I used to say that to say "I love You" everyday is much better than saying "I love You forever". after all what is life but one second? what is death but one second? and what is forever but one second? like always much much enjoyed poetry I would spent hours reading You dear Pete.
