My life has been the poem I would have write but I could not both live and utter it. - Thoreau

lying prone in a spent bed of prose
passion in every line we trace
adoration the title
kisses the verses
this poem we write together as one
this sonnet that rehearses
this lustful desire that both blesses and curses

craving the rhyme
our bodies the crime
fervor's mountain we climb
wrapped together tightly as an inseparable vine
drinking each other in like fine red wine
savoring each other in a repast on which we dine
losing all sense of time

from where did we first get this notion
this deep devotion
when did we first drink love's potion
when did we first taste this emotion
first swim in its vast ocean
lather ourselves in its soothing lotion

fruit of catullus
fear of what might annul us
romance that will lull us
no doubt

only its final reading will tell us

Author's Note

Pete
"Poetry is the only life got, the only work done, the only pure product and free labor of man, performed only when he has put all the world under his feet, and conquered the last of his foes. Good poetry seems so simple and natural a thing that when we meet it we wonder that all men are not always poets." - Thoreau
