i yell emphatically at the mirror, "you're a liar"
it has no response other than to keep staring back
still insisting on that which it reflects

i put on a disguise and look again, thinking that the game is done and i've won

amidst sharp shards, the mirror has no choice but to answer

i read this as a poem about self-hatred. reading it left a wound in my chest. the pain of not being able to live up to what you think you are capable of is certainly no small matter. and the aggression that rises to the surface is a force to be feared.
