I Have Reason to Believe

I Have Reason to Believe

A Poem by Jofer Serapio

I have reason to believe

You are not

            Who you seem to be

Too much face paint,

            Fake eyelashes

                        And lies as poetry.

I have reason to believe

I know you not

            Though you know me

We’re associates at best,

            Just associates not friends,

                        Honestly.

Can’t you see?

I’m not you,

            You’re not me.

We’re not made to be

            Not made to agree

            Thus, there’ll be no we.

I have reason to believe

You, my friend,

Are taking this too seriously.

I said, “Hi.”

You said, “Hi.”

That’s all it will ever be.
