I love my boots;

so black ..........ten inch laced

 funny it is ..

I bought them at WalMart for

Forty-nine ninety five a

price i will afford

i love my boots

my skin head boots

When i lace them 

farther up i

feel 

the steel 

in the toes 

rise up

rise up to my brain 

my

skin head brain

I think a lot with those toes

funny thing

how black they are.

Hello, Einstein! :)
Great write, it really got me thinking.
There are adults who haven't learned to work through their fears and frustrations. Instead, they live with those emotions, and strangely find them comforting. These people have trouble connecting with others and their relationships are always abusive. These people want to place blame and punish others because it is what they know. Their families and society failed to guide them to adulthood. They abuse because they want to be abused.
In a healthy society these people would be rarities, seen for what they are and cared for. They wouldn't be out finding like-minds and "nurturing" new generations. 
Fabian mentioned in his review, "There is a crack in everything God has made." there are cracks in man made things as well. We've become fascinated by tv stories and new tech, so proud of our cars and homes, so stylized and branded and enthralled and rigid with anticipation that we've become the cracks in our society, our numb society. And, those are our children who will be lacing up their boots. 
Look at their willfulness, what could have been greatness had a parent been understanding and nurturing instead of distracted or abusive, or had a neighbor or teacher cared. What precious minds have we ignored?  

We will, as a society, learn to forgive and connect, and help these people; or we will keep spanking "children" for mismanaging their emotions; and feigning shock to match our facades of innocence.
Ourselves, our families, our society, our planet, these things matter most.

there is such invulnerability here; so immune to being wounded or injured. People in my family have refused to speak to me just because of my politics....what happened to the fundamental nature of looking outside ourselves? that's why poetry is so absorbedly un-harmful and necessary in this impregnable world.....great poem my friend....dana

these lessons are hardly ever for the one in the skin head boots.. even as hate is a learned behavior.. so must we be taught to love.. "Hey Jude" is not about the girl.. it is about Jude.. what is it he needs to do to make the bad song better.. he must let her under his skin.. there is something almost pitiful about the boy in the skin head boots that was taught to hate in such a way that he can not see it as hate.. and no.. the brain he needs is not sold at WalMart.. it can only be found in the heart of one willing to let him under her skin.. once again Mr Noodle.. well done..

Politics aside, this is a very well-written poem. I love the poet's mind, how he can turn even the most vile thing into something beautiful. Love is like the sun and will always vanquish hate.

If you're not a skin head wouldn't they just be combat boots when you wear them? Or work boots? Or just, boots?

I get what you're trying to do, the "hey jude" video makes that quite clear... take a bad thing and make it better. But you are doing it in an illogical and unfair way. Back in 2004ish when the US Army still wore black boots, your logic would imply we were all skinheads who think with our toes because we wear black combat boots, what you called skinhead boots. That's unfair, shallow, and lazy reasoning.... and most importantly - a false equivalency.

Why don't you just stop blanket labeling all those poor black boots... they have feelings too. (my review is not totally serious)

well...you are right about blanket judgments ..no arguments there :) .. its difficult to discuss the logic of poetry, i think...it is filled with alegory, metaphor personifications and all the rest ...i am glad that you do see what this poem is trying to say and i appreciate your feedback ..and the caveat " (my review is not totally serious) :)

handicapped people can paint and write with their toes... our entire body is connected like a symphony orchestra. My husband Roger only wears Boots... he has diabetes and and refuses to wear socks. It works for him... he likes to be one with the leather... birds of a feather ... he and I. truly, Pat

how odd! i had said so much more in response to your sharing ... oh well ... i think i said something like ...those who paint and write with their toes are thinking with their hearts and minds ... those of my poem are not ;) and your husband is very unique and goes against medical advice (i am a retired RN ;) but as long as his feet handle it ...it works ..right?! my Norma hates shoes and socks as well and wears almost exclusively those foam flip flops .. even in winter :O ..love ya! tell the ol' man to be careful with those toes :)

This to me is quite evocative. I say this because my husband grew up in London in the time of the skinheads and he lived in fear of them, nasty people he says. There's a film with Russell Crowe called Romper Stomper, an Aussie film, about Aussie skinheads, it's a cult film, he refuses to watch it with me - I like that film for different reasons. I was watching an American skinhead film the other night - I saw him get visibly sick by me watching it ... funny isn't how we all view things differently? When I read skinhead I automatically think of MOshe :D your poem is good though - I like the line thinking with his toes ... yeah Moshe would agree with that X

so happy to see your cloaked face stopping in Vria ;) and thank you for your very encouraging review .. its funny; but the class i just finished had as one of its goals to help participants find their voice .. and at the end of it i did .. and realized i have been using it for the most part right from the start of my writing ... tho i have tried collaborations and a bunch of classical forms but am most comfortable with free verse .. so thank you for your encouragement once more ..i deeply appreciate it .. :)
