Starved Stomachs

Starved Stomachs

A Poem by Raj Sahu
"

This poem shows the dark side of humanity and the bad effect of poverty.

"

The eyes were constantly searching,
Searching for the food to quench the appetite.
But the stony passers were ignoring
the hungry mouths, imagining of a bite.

Poverty has become an antagonist,
In the story of starved stomachs.
Each character and himself the protagonist
Just thinks and their thumbs they suck.

The eyes shed bitter tears
And their hearts complained to the Lord,
"O Almighty! Are we lacking in prayers
or had done the deeds so abhorred?"

Unbeatable crying, but still lives the hope
And it will live until breaks the life's rope.

Very moving
Hunger seems to be all around us where ever we live and travell
Old people here
Do they spend money on eating or Heating
They live in cold houses temperatures below freezing wearing hats, coats and gloves.

Very nice. Reminds me of living in North Korea, there was barely any food to sustain us. We often resorted to cannibalism and eating grass and even human flesh

So sad! 😔 Thanks for your review.
You've grabbed us by our own well ordered lives
And forced our minds to horrors past our smiles
the word we know the bitterness derives
and unimagined grief of youthful trials

But, even though the fragile shard is broke
with hesitation clearly holding sway.
There moves the blur of tears in which to cloak
all notions of the games the passers play

Now is it true denouement at the end?
Or do we hold the truth by just a thread?
We watch the well-fed sneak on past the bend
to look beyond and see not what they dread

Engaging, how you’ve laid this wound so bare.
One can’t deny the truth at which we stare.

Thanks a lot.
I was often starved by my mother and step-father. If they suspected that I stole food, they'd make me throw it up. And then one of their cruel punishments was holding food in my mouth, but I couldn't swallow it. If I did swallow it, they'd beat me black and blue. We had enough for food despite being poor but they took joy in seeing my brother, sister, and me suffer.

It's everywhere.

This is a different case. How's one's parents be so cruel? Can you explain me more about this case?

So sad. I think that it should be time when hunger is a thing of the past. There are many charities that take up the cause but some of those are corrupt, or the governments they try to help are corrupt. In the USA, they have to have free breakfasts and lunches in the school programs because if they didn't then those children may only get one meal a day. Taken for granted and locked away. Great point and great piece.

Made me want to cry.As I was moved that deeply by what you wrote. So very true. The rich get richer and the poorer get poorer. We live a rich man's world. The rule us all with an iron fist.

Thank you so much.
It was a really quite emotional poem..actually the picture of small kids who beg on road actually came in my mind as i read it..I really liked your poem and the way you narrated it was just awesome..You are good at your narrating skills and you are having great ability of controlling what the reader thinks as he or she reads your poem..Actually , poverty and hunger they are actually serious issues which need serious attention.. But you know especially in india many beggars who we meet on roads they actually belong to a beggar chain and actually it involves human trafficking and giving money to them sometimes means helping ones who indulge in heinous crime like human trafficking..over all i am really glad that you wrote such a beautiful poem on a sensitive issue like this..
Keep on writing and thanks for sharing
