Listen

A poem about depression and self harm. It's a real issue and sometimes all the person needs is someone to listen.

Listen to her,

sobbing quietly late at night

Her heart had been broken

a few too many times.

Her mother doesn't get it.

She thinks "If she wanted to, 

she could quit this."

But the girl's addicted.

She's addicted to her sorrow

and she's addicted to the pain.

She's addicted to seeing her own blood

and the beautiful silver metal on the blade.

And yet society says she's the one to blame

but in all reality she's the one who's in for a world of pain

she just wanted someone to listen

but sadly no one ever came.

I enjoy this poem because it explains the core of most teenagers, and others who harm themselves. I have a rough history with self harm and most of my poetry is about that, and the way it feels, how the craving for it can consume someones mind. This is a beautiful poem. Keep it up.

Thanks a lot. I have been depressed a lot but I haven't self harmed too much. I've known quite a few self mutilators and there's always more to it than "oh I just felt like cutting" Thanks for your review, it means the world to me.

Depression if not controlled can be very harmful and devastating. We need that window of hope to see the sunrays...Bravo............
