Return to Self

Return to Self

A Poem by Stephan E. Weller
"

This came from a pep talk I was giving myself when I was feeling down

"

When life treats you like dirt

And you are running from the hurt

Try to remember the Joy

Of being young when you received your favorite toy

When you are running from the pain

And trying to forget that you made a bad decision once again

Don’t forget that you are learning

For a better life you are yearning

Or running from your shame

For it is you that you blame

Think about your inner strength and power

Or about the times you never cowered

The distain you feel from others

Brings you to hiding and quaking under the covers

Remember to thy own self be true

Because you are alive because of no one else but you

The fear that drives you every waking moment

In your confused brain it is a big component

Remember the times you were clear and alert

And their eyes from you they could not divert

You are scared and alone

Walking, working like a mindless drone

Forget not you have others and friends

It is ok to start your life again

Fear not the life you live

And make sure it is you and your heart that you give

Life is too short for you to be existing like this

Life is an adventure with all its ups, downs, turns and twists
