Welcome to My World

Welcome to My World

A Poem by Robert L.

“Welcome to my world,”

Says the poet to his page,

“Like a boulder being hurled,

On you I’ll write my rage.”

A shepherd’s staff doth lead the sheep

Both in and out the gate.

Is each of us a mindless sheep

Marked with a certain fate?

The glistening coil

Of a serpent’s strike,

Tainted by the

Venom of death,

Shows death and beauty coincide

While beauty dies

In time,

Beauty’s fate in death.

Two peppers and a tomato

Set before me now.

Ripened by the sun-star

And by the fertile soil,

They, plucked, set on a counter,

Ready for a knife to slice them.

I marvel at the brilliance of

Their green and red.

Odd how a yellow star

And a brown earth and

Colorless, invisible gases

Make reds and greens appear.

Fate of life.

One of these marvels I’ll eat.

I’ll watch the other two rot.
