Jeanette is Gay

Jeanette is Gay

A Poem by redalia
"

loosely inspired by Jeanette Winterson's novel Oranges Are Not the Only Fruit

"

Not alone,

not present,

not where you want us to be,

we are

not who we are

supposed to be.

Way more comfortable

in another body

or consciousness.

Been slipping in and out

of reality

in the physical sense.

We need good sleep, is all.

Don’t you have anything to say?

Not much, I’d assume;

not anything of the same genre,

not one thing.

To the pure, all things are pure.

Need help?

You'll be ready in a day?

Why are you so detached?

Don’t you have anything to add?

Hear this:

not even one

person’s ever

gonna make you feel that

confident,

comfortable

or desirable.

I know you love them

and

you need them

but

who and what

is even

real?

I want closer, is all.

(Would absolutely love

not to hold things back.

Though, you can only talk so much

with Melanie.)

even that which isn't accepted by many is pure---
love is pure when it is what we feel...

when you mention a Melanie...i think of Melanie Safka...
"until i'm center of your circle, keep on holding me---hold me i need everybody"

really like the honesty and feeling that come through in this write..somewhat confessional...very real...reminds me of Plath or Sexton or Levertov...

Redalia, your poem is indeed very beautiful. Structure, flow of words.
I like how you leave it all open, for each person to interprete and relate with it as they choose. It's the definition of a work of art! Please keep writing.
