The Attic

The Attic

A Poem by redzone
"

….cleaning out the cobwebs

"

The Attic

Exploring the attic,

boxes piled high

with all things past,

my eyes faded

the old memories

pulled from each box,

except for the ones of you.

For some reason,

yours remained like yesterday,

clear, sharp,

and painful.

The night bled grey into the day,

creating shadows

of hollow air

that sucked out life

like an expanding vacuum,

freeze drying my heart.

I return to the attic

from time to time

to remember;

"I don’t want

to start another fire";

to lose my heart in the flames.

from the movie "A Star Is Born" and sung by Lady Gaga. The

No matter how much you don't want "to start another fire", it can happen when you least expect it to. Memories can have velvet edges, but they can also have razor sharp blades. They make up who we are. I loved the concept of freeze drying a heart. You, my friend, do not have a frozen heart. Great write...and great song. Very "nice". Lydi**

There are some memories like fires that will never truly be extinguished. Great song. Enjoyed both the poem and the lyrics.

i, Too, have lost a love in flames....figuratively and literally...and the keepsakes are treasures...
they carry a certain sad and also a certain smile...remembrance.
