Southern Gentlemen

Southern Gentlemen

A Poem by HopelessRomantic
"

A little tribute to us southern gentlemen and our way of life

"

We come from the land south of the Mason-Dixon line

We have a style that is very divine

We are known for our hospitality

And we live a lifestyle that is quite lively

We still say sir and ma'am

Don't like it? We don't give a damn

We hold doors open when women are near

They hold us, in their hearts, most dear

We are known for enjoying our whiskey

And yes, unfortunately, we might get a little frisky

But, we are gentlemen at heart

We are raised like that from the start

We are the gentlemen of the South

The sweetest of compliments flow from our mouth

So ladies, please, have no fear

Your heart's desire is now here

wow I read this as my brother started watching a western show and normally anything like that annoys me but I loved your poem It actually had me imagining a scene in a movie or book where all this was going on.

Whoa! I'm reading a book right now that is set in the south, and this is pretty dead on for the male characters. It's almost foreign to me, being born and raised in California. But wow, what a nice concept! =)

cool
Again, divine brings up mystics. It's a distracting curiousity that you don't expand on that theme. Second stanza is pretty g. Last couple of the third stanza is fab. Last stanza is kind of perfect.

I tried using divine to describe the style, should I not use it as an adjective anymore?

True
The rhyming in the first stanza feels a little forced... like it took too much effort finding words to use. Just my opinion. Overall I like the poem though. It was sweet. :)
