Gallaudet University Dance 1984

Gallaudet University Dance 1984

A Poem by Richard Lane

the day after returning

from the dance

in 1984 when i was

15 in high school

and I am not just throwing words out when I say

I empathized with the Deaf Students who danced

to the music of Bach which I've often heard being played

loudly and there was one young brunette

woman in the dance group

who from first sight

looked like the most beautiful woman on Earth to me

and for the next few days all

I could dream about

was the way she danced and gave me a quick smile

before she joined her fellow dancers

in the dance routine set to the tune of one of Mozart's

greatest operas ever on that rainy & cold tuesday

afternoon in October of 1984
