God is a Metaphor ... With All Due Respect

God is a Metaphor ... With All Due Respect

A Poem by Einstein Noodle

God is a Metaphor
erupting with fingering phrases
glissando winds ripple limbs
frisson rises in all those places
dawn's sun breaks and swims

how can i think what God is?

newly fallen snow, fresh kill
heat steams wavering over
shaded rooms like  a poet's quill
enlighten corners like no other

how can i say who God is?

tuck and rolled white-red leather
the clouds lay cotton in the valleys and
in a faceless place the eyes are a trema
prickly pare cactus bleeds bended knees

how can i see where God is?

immovable and curdled milk senses
mixed in whiskeyrum tumblers
ice hiccup clinking glass  ..... a
frenetic lens
 ....and
stippled integrity ...and
icy fingers probing the most difficult;
forcing open brittle parchment
peering
loving parts i will not admit

God is a metaphor
With all due respect

Beautiful deep dive of introspection, thoughts and words here E. "God is a Metaphor...With All Due Respect"- a knockout of a title! Exquisite language and great form with questions asked and answered-or not really... Maybe we are all metaphors. Loved this provocative poem E. Happy 2020!

Everyone and everything is a metaphor I think. This is a belter of a piece and a cracking title E :) Faith/spirituality or whatever name we grace it with is all perception in my belief...the great universal energy decoded into an aspect we can reach on some level...it is within the self as the heavens are, within nature most everywhere and weaves us all together in unknown ways...beautifully done E. You are a magnificent writer :)

You're brave. That is, in poetry time where bravery, punctuation, truth and ash all happen at the same time. They said of Dickinson that she was brave/ by comparison to Whitman and the other male poets writing at the time. They said of Whitman that he was brave to write like he had considering all the other male poets that were writing at the time. More than a single poem can ever make us think, it makes us look. Bravery then is the metaphor for the objects we cant articulate. That's why 18 year old soldiers jump on top of hand grenades to save their comrades, or why poets disregard the thunderbolts from the sky politely looking for the blaspheme to disintegrate ...lol/ great poem/ dana

I think anyone who believes in God will agree he’s in everything. Even a metaphor. Where there’s beauty, there’s God. There’s a singer I like who sings about seeing God In everything which is interesting to listen to, and this reminded me of that a bit. Only this was more Robert Frost type style and I enjoyed that more than the song. I always love nature, and this could also reach to anybody who doesn’t believe in God but still loves nature. This just reaches everybody haha.

A very interesting title, dear E! Any musings about God and his presence or lack thereof are bound to receive a wide variety of thoughts and opinions. The first time I have heard of Him addressed as being a metaphor, though. I guess it all depends on the beliefs of the individual. Many would say that God represents all that you have described visually in your stanzas; He is in everything of the beauty that surrounds us; others need more concrete answers of his existence. So, I guess we shall always have questions about Him and never quite the answers we need. I enjoyed your thoughts here and your presentation of Him in a very original light. Much enjoyed!:))

Unfortunately, my pithy mind just doesn't get a lot of this. tuck and rolled white-red leather...prickly pare cactus bleeds bended knees Hmm? I am just a simpleton that got lucky with a few poems. Someday I'll get stuff like this, but for now, it's a struggle. I do like it though. :)

Curious. Is the ending meant to be an extended statement? God is a metaphor may be the title, but I sort of take the line where you say 'loving parts I will not admit' as a statement eventually finished with 'God is a metaphor' and 'with all due respect'.

"I will not admit God is a metaphor, with all due respect." Nor should you. For the believers, He is real, living, and true.

Just my take. I may not be Christian, although I've thought, and continue to think about it, but if I were a believer, I would not call God a metaphor. We can use metaphors to try and describe what is beyond us, and this world, but while they bring a certain light to the shadows, only faith could do the rest.

I'm pretty sure that even without me coming to read THIS, You already knew that I would respect, love and admire it. You are a spiritual and a thinking person who always seek new experiences with an open mind and heart, but not before now I read it clearly and deep from You like here and now. we read poems about how God is a part and lives in everything, the very special and great about Yours, that it was written in Your own way, in Your own style, from Your very own mind, it's not a cliché like those we read (yes, including mine). it's too special, too personal, maybe because of that I wasn't able to grasp fully some of the lines, but I felt it, how Your senses were totally open, like Your were drifted to another dimension. I applaud You high my dear E!
