A Yellow Rose

A Yellow Rose

A Poem by R.E. Ray
"

A different perspective, perhaps visually, of the yellow rose.

"

You, my yellow rose, sustain me,

Darling!

And your wild hair strands,

Dare I say,

Dirty blonde,

Tickle

My eyes and nose and lips;

A teasing, solemn,

Grave bouquet.

And I ~ here, now and forever,

A grafted anchor root

Reciprocate,

Holding upright you, my precious perennial,

Sun’s buttery bloom,

The flower that marks my tomb,

Ma rose jaune!

If this is to be taken literally, we are hearing a voice from beyond the grave. Actually, from within the grave, as it were. Several of the images allude to cemetery flora, with the last verse stating the yellow rose is "the flower that marks my tomb." Perhaps love does go beyond death.

I've read this poem about 6x now and am amazed how it makes more sense the more I read it. Excellent poem regardless if it taken literally or not. The imagery, sense of life and death, and passion are all wonderfully crafted to create an excellent poem. Thank-you for this excellent work.
