you're mine 'til nine

you're mine 'til nine

A Poem by Mikayla Rasmussen

a satin blanket glides across your skin,
as your arm reaches out to pull me in.

we gaze out the window, watching the sun set.
hues of pink, orange and purple shoot through the sky.

hues of blue dance in your eyes.
we have been laying here for hours, tangled in our warmth.

I feel you stir and sit up.
you say you have something for me.

"I'll be right back. I love you.
I promise I won't leave."

you exit the room and it becomes cold.
almost as if you took the warmth with you.

I lay and wait. seconds pass and then minutes.
your spot on my bed lays disturbed and warm.

like fire thrown to a paper,
my heart starts to smolder.

because I begin calling your name, but you don't return.
and even though I don't remember falling asleep, suddenly my eyes open.

I look out the window and see a blue sky and the rising sun.
the spot on my bed where you had laid is cold and untouched.

I look at my alarm clock and it reads 9:01
