Among new flowers

Among new flowers

A Poem by Davi Rodrigues

This is a reply to a haiku of mine, Seduction http://www.writerscafe.org/writing/rodriguesdavi/1144729/

Once I had a sprig of sweet little lilac flowers
They were beautiful
They couldn't just be left to live on Nature's showers
I was dutiful

Every day some water sprinkles
Every night some thoughtful care
Plucking out petals with wrinkles
And they even seemed to glare

I really liked my sprig of little lilac flowers
More than I can say
To them I would devote the most valuable hours
The best of my day

My friends and I were happy,
Under the sunshine, walking
Enjoying jokes quite snappy
We show our love by mocking

Then I simply forgot my sprig of lilac flowers
I sensed a new smell
And though it didn't bring a love that all devours
It felt pretty swell

Oh, I rued what I had done
My lilacs were left behind
But they wouldn't now be gone
If they had been on my mind

I thought of changing the vase
Of bringing them back to life
But I had no other space
Nor the needed gard'ner's knife

Author's Note

Davi Rodrigues
Again, the symbols are not just in the story. I always try to reflect something in the form when I write long poems (not haikus, those have less room for that).
For reference on the obvious flower metaphor, look up Language of Flowers.

I like writing in English, don't know why. Sometimes I think I write better in English than in my own language. Portuguese is not so much my thing. more..
