My Own Lies

My Own Lies

A Poem by Davi Rodrigues
"

Just some thoughts I was trying to let out. Didn't turn out great.

"
I've heard that one dream
Is five minutes long
And since longer it seems
Your perception is wrong

Well, no one I know
Has had dreams so short
Of five minutes or so
I've seen naught of the sort

So it sounds to me
Our brains lie to us
And on purpose, you see
Like our sleep needs a plus

So they make up lives
Whole stories and worlds
Some where happiness thrives
And some messed up and whorled

They're good lies, I guess
If such thing exists
I could never dream less
It gives my life a twist

So thank you, my brain
You shameless liar
These fibs bring me no pain
They lift and inspire

I loved the idea of this piece, so thoughtful and unique. I have always wondered about the false perceptions of the length of dreams.. they seen to last for hours yet, in reality, they last for mere minutes. Thank you for sharing this.. In terms of improvement, there is not a lot I can say.. you have perfectly portrayed your thoughts and ideas clearly and cleverly.
