WAS IT LOVE

WAS IT LOVE

A Poem by poetry-kiddo alienbaba
"

A journey down memory lane and concluding with a firm resolution

"

Was it love

Sometimes things are not

Really what they seem to be

And the human-mind is really

A dream-land of fantasy

Sometimes our hearts get affected

By an unexplained disease

It puts our life into turmoil

And such was the case with me.

I thought my vow was for ever

But somehow things turned round

Rules I had set for myself

To them how could I remain bound

I prayed to the heavens for help

But help was not to be found

Although my emotions weakened me

I boldly stood my ground.

Was it love, was it love

Or infatuation, please tell me

Was it love, was it love,

Or a spirit that possessed me

And now in the mellow evening

I muse over the past

The Pain those memories bring back

And hurt my heart so much

Wisdom comes with age

And this world is so vast

I have grown wiser now

And this love was my last

Sometimes the passions of youth end up as the regrets of the future. That is seemingly what happened in this case. Though no specifics are mentioned, it appears the speaker, because of intense attraction to another, broke a solemn vow, probably that of marriage. Now, in later years, although wiser, he still looks back on the episode with sorrow. "And this love was my last." Does this mean permanent damage? We cannot know, but sometimes healing does occur.

Everyone makes mistakes. Forgiving yourself is one of the first steps to healing, and/or letting go of such regrets. Although, I feel a person should always hold on to love...when its right, of course.
