Retouching

Retouching

A Poem by Trey Bell
"

2nd draft of a poem I've been working on.

"
Nights are too often spent retouching our past
Reliving when you would hold me until the pain ebbed
Or at least until the pang in my gut was replaced
By your breath on my neck

Slow dancing in the dark
Subtly tilting to our hips
Only our underwear distanced  us
From my beloved Disney song

Sometimes I confuse
Which part of me was removed
I had two pieces of me carved out
When you took back the promised decades

Once fastened in our hearts
Go on and kiss me like you never left
So I can forget the future
Elide a mermaid's silhouette
