What I'd Like to See

What I'd Like to See

A Poem by Ruby of the Mountains
"

Yes, that is what I'd like to see... What I'd like to see. --Make a difference.

"

I want to hear, not bullets firing,

Not despairing wails,

Nor the whimpers of pain,

But the children laughing,

The birds singing,

And the forest coming to life.

I want to smell, not choking car exhaust,

Not the billowing smoke,

Nor the stink of garbage,

But the sweet, fresh air,

The dew-covered grass,

And the taste of the wild.

I want to feel, not the gray concrete,

Not the dull walls of stone,

Nor the remnants of a disaster,

But the bark of a growing tree,

The leaves high in the air,

And a touch, a touch full of hope.

I want to see, not sadness and misery,

Not the beating of innocents,

Nor children on the streets,

But the shining, hopeful eyes,

The wolves racing free,

And the promising of peace, a new tomorrow.

Yes, that is what I’d like to see…

What I’d like to see.
