Life

Life

A Poem by sarah

I watched him closely
From a few feet away
I watched helplessly

The flames from the cars grew more intense
But he didn't seem to notice that
He only had his eyes on her

He bent down to her
And clutched her tightly
He held her lifeless body

He pulled her as close to him as possible
His screams ripped through the sky like a knife
It shot through my heart

His pain seemed to drown me
He held on to her
Like if he held on tight enough
Life would re-enter her body

His tears flowed down his cheek
Like rain
He didn't bother to brush them off his face

His eyes stayed on the women in his arms
I could here him whisper things to her
Whisper his goodbyes

He let her go
I ran over to him
I tried to wrap my arms around him

But when I looked down at the women
I realized something

I was the woman....

i LOVE this. I really do. I was going to say "His screams ripped through the sky like a knife/It shot through my heart "was my favorite, because I really felt it, but I absolutely love the twist at the ending. I also like the idea of life re-entering her body. So, so good.

I should start writing my dreams down too. My mum n aunt (jungians) always tell me to, but I never end up writing them.
I think in dreams we experience and feel things that are so overwhelming and breath-taking, scary and soothing... such a wide range! To be able to have dreams.. is a gift. And to remember them later, is even better.
I really liked this. The idea.. well, I won't begin to analyze now, for your sake and mine.
I loved the way you wrote this. To the point - factual. Normally I don't like poems that are so... without any sort of meter.. but I liked this.

You! You got me good on this clever poem. Loved the twist at the end. You described the impact of moment that life ends perfectly. I wasn't expecting my little dog to die. When I found him, I just kept whispering to him and talking to his lifeless body. I really was hoping he would come back. Awesome job. Very clever.
