Immortality

Immortality

A Poem by L. E. Standoff
"

The pondering of one of mankind's most pondered thoughts

"

A prize not worth winning

At the end of a maze

That we call science

Something meant to amaze

Although the notion of immortality brings me delight

I realize that without death

There is no life

So I stand here and reject

Full of pride

That I will someday die

In front of your eyes

I have no will

I will not be remembered

And that is fine

For I live alone

With no one to agree with

Beauty isn’t permanent

Just like a flower

It starts off beautiful

And then it wilts

Like every good thing

It shouldn’t last forever

For if you ate your favorite food everyday

It wouldn’t be your favorite

I think about this kind of stuff often. As much as I want to sit idly by and gather ye rose buds, etc. I start to feel a blackness without movement and challenge. We are all a story from beginning to end. I just want to be a good one even if no one reads it. We desire meaning. Guess death brings that. Haha. I don't know. Good poem though.

The poem makes a good point concerning the value of opposites. If there were no death, how would we value life? Thus does our impermanence give meaning to our lives.
