A walk in the woods

A walk in the woods

A Poem by Sally Edwards
"

Most days I go to the local woods I love to walk around seeing what's new , sometimes I even stop there before I go to work just to put food out for the birds, squirrels and whatever else comes by. I like to take photos of them too. I was inspired to writ

"

Went for a walk in the woods today
First thing I saw was a beautiful Jay
A quick  flash of blue
And then away it flew

Next I saw something yellow
it was a Brimstone being mellow
Fluttering by and up to the sky
I didn't even get to say Hi

I heard it sing with puffed out chest
then I saw the red of it's breast
A robin on the branch above me
sweetly singing for all to see

High above I heard a rustle
I wondered what was all the bustle
It was then I saw a blur of white
A woodpecker was in my sight

All of a sudden something grey,
Something else to see today
A squirrel gathering nuts to hide
There it goes, over to my left side

Went for a walk in the woods today
Plenty to see any time of the day
The sun is down now,  out of sight
I leave the woods and say goodnight

I love the poem. It was very good. It has good rhythum and rhyme and the imagery was brilliant. But the thing that really caught my attention was the colour scheme. The idea of putting each stanza in the colour mentioned about in it was good. Once again I enjoyed reading this poem alot. I am inspired by your words.

This is a nice relating of a simple walk. The world of nature and it's other creatures are a delight to me. It's sad how we humans miss it most of the time. We forget that there are other species of creatures living their own lives all around us every day. I think this is a great observation put into poetry. Thanks for sharing. Well done.

sally, an all around delightfully well written poem that is completely transporting, i love how you take
the reader to the moment in the forest, the tranquil walk amongst the trees, one can feel the wind blowing and the birds chirping in your peaceful poem of pondering, lovingly expressed with care to
detail, reflected by your colorfully passionate rhyme form, its vibrant, and really awakens all the
readers senses, along with the photo, your vision really comes to life with imagination, excellent writing.

I love the theme of this poem... the walk in the park and all the birds you see... I sometimes lke to take my notebook to the park and find a bench and start writing... good thing spring is here so I can do that again... I love how you used a new color for every stanza.... it kinda set the mood for it before I started reading it, almost as good as pictures... you rhymed today and day... maybe you would want to consider changing the line to "plenty to see any which way"? just a suggestion... it is a really strong piece, I feel like I just got done taking that walk with you! Good Job!

awwww i love this ! walking in the woods is one of my favorite things, too. there IS always something new... i need to do this more often.

you you made the color scheme work really welll - i hardly ever think the use of colors works, but this was just delightful. i felt like i was reading one of my old childrens book, when the colors of the animals changed, .... or something lol. regardless, i really adored this piece :)

hugs
