Icarus

Icarus

A Poem by Samael

Icarus, lend thy angel wings,
For the Lord's choir softly sings,
God's wrath rain'th upon me,
Flew too close to his glory,
His power melted my angel form,
Fell from Heaven by bitter scorn,

Icarus, do lend me so,
Cast to the Earth ages ago,
Icarus, Have you not but tried?
Take the leap and see if you can fly-

What a great juxtaposition..so many similarities yet contrasts as the attempt was one for freedom and thus the creator of the labyrinth was searching the realm of freedom from the walls within his own invention that housed a monster. Minos imprisoned him in his invention to hide this secret..was that monster in your comparison God, Lucifer, or Man..freedom becoming the price of a "son".."perhaps"..certainly it can be interpreted that way. It certainly makes one ask some serious questions as all poetry should. Those who know the story will get the drift as obviously you so creatively relayed...a wonderful read...Thanks!

A powerful piece of writing this Samael. Thought provoking and an interesting read to take on board and ponder on.

my pleasure Samael.
Playing off another legend ... this from Greek mythology. Icarus was the son of Daedalus ... therefore human. Unlike Lucifer he was not an angel cast from heaven, but a man who yearned to fly with the eagles
who fell when the wax holding his wings melted when he flew too close to the Sun.
All in all though I like that you are exploring the old myths and putting a different spin on them.

Ah, I see, thank you
A well-constructed poetic creation on an increasingly familiar theme.
Icarus fell; Satan was cast down.
