HOMELAND/By Sami Khalil
( A celebration of America's day, its ideals and the natural wonders )
)))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))

This is the land!
Your pledge of allegiance
Your exile... forsaken
Your fertile imagination
Your stripes and colors
You blood flows through
Hopes and dreams proffered

This is the land!
that loamed your cinch
with golden moments
with outre' dreams
with madrigal realities
with brave's therondies
where its timeless freedoms
breathe the air of knowing
that all men are created equal
even the festooned distaffs too
with merited causes of liberty
that knows neither sopors nor slumber
and justice is blessed with blindness.

This is the day!
For the miens of unsung heroes
For the visages of mantic moons.
For the outward manifestation
For the inner divine essence.

This is my homeland!
A lucid diamond in scented bowers.
You fire the mind of a poet and captivate
the heart of a wanderer, and in your love
I shall find life's fulfillment, and in your
school of nature, I shall learn the art of
living truth but in your sorrow, I shall
lament with the widowed for in our gilded
peaks we lost the summit to the wrath
of man reaping his fruits which courses
now in our bodies, minds and souls.

This is the New World!
These are my gnarled hands...

(This review, of course, applies to those words I actually understood. The poet's flowery vocabulary often exceeds my level of expertise--even when I use a dictionary attempting to decode phrases. Obviously, my failing.)
Soaring ode to a wounded giant; extolling the inspired principles upon which the United States was founded.
Raises up its basically good, hard-working people.
Truly heartwarming, Sami!
Thank you.

So many things in a single poem, found it difficult to keep track of all. Thanks for putting such a marvelous piece. :)

Oh the complexities of liberty and nationalism (on the negative side, in some ways the bane of many civil unrests and wars of course, the cause of human sacrifices, prejudices and the loss of life)......though what is inspiring about this particular poem, is how you uniquely express your allegiance to the US flag, with such cross cultural dignity, great writing here!

I am so happy to see someone writing a praise to this great country, Sami. So many 'America' poems have slammed this land. There are so many beautiful things here. Angi~

I think you only touched on it lightly with this line " I shall lament with the widowed for in our gilded
peaks we lost the summit to the wrath"...But we all know that the land of the fee was paid for by blood.

We have many ideals, and many hopes for freedom. We fight each other too much, we insult each other too much...this is a hopeful inspiring piece Sami..But all it is is land...its the people who inhabit the land that define interactions and freedom through words and actions.
