Anodyne

A romance poem...

    Anodyne

……………....By Sami Khalil

A romance poem………………………………………………………………………………………………………………….

Those abiding questions abound

Whilst raged and constantly be

Whose hemmed immortals round

To fetch back their infinite glee.

Who ravished labours and reigns

Accurst in pride and haggard rites

Beholding selfish, disheveled gains

Palsied as it were in guilty plights.

But love needn’t a retort or reproof

Whose repose in comparison none forgo

And hearts yet manacled in blithe aloof

Perused to no starry end in sunset glow.

Whose unforeseen silence and succor lay

Edifying in truant swells a puissant way.

Does love really conquer all? Probably not but sometimes it's all we got. Great poem Sami.

Nothing short of a Shakespearean flow! Superb wording Sami, as always a sheer delight to see a poem from you :) You cast a fine and visual feast for a Poet's eager senses, wow :)

i like "a pain killing drug" the best for an anodyne definition ;) i have to read these kinds of poems several times over to catch a drift of what is said ..i don't mean to embarrass you Sami ..but the language of the Great Bard is like that ...but once understood it wows a person!
i see the gods of old (very old) laughing at the human foible in questions .. then our pursuits of the material world ..very large mistakes of false pride .. i absolutely love the first line in the third verse .. love ..who would not stop and rest there? and your closing is grand and sublime at the same time .. its scary what goes round in your head to write in such a way! scary ....but very admirable to be sure!

A great poem of romance, true love is immortal, overcomes all hurdles and challenges, it takes humans to higher level way higher than passion.
