Many thoughts came together.

Free Verse

                     By Sami Khalil

I sketch the far side of things; the span of bridges barely out of sight.

Too often, I chance to see around the leafy bends; the rumble of trains buzzing toward crossroad towns.

With earned glory, my memory assails the rattle of hearses, deemed obsolete of merciless echoes.

My first foe yields to sheltered valleys, tucked in between sylvan mountain ridges.

Way up in the night sky, as it welcomes its unbidden guests, our waking world, lacking rooms for some dreams, hinges its desires on engines turning.

My mind goes blank sometimes, silencing clocks hung on darkened walls.

First of dates tug at the heartstrings, never devoid of sharp blades.

Perhaps I’m tired of resting places, heart pounds, winter calls, own council and sudden oops.

Maybe the symbols are vanishing as bums, panhandling for hexed meanings, wriggling out of muses’ spheres and creative shores.

But, being sought by grownups, its voice can not be hushed.

I must sketch now…the free verse.

Wow Sami i love this. A melon collie of thoughts, emotions, hopes and dreams all rolled in to one well metered free verse. The imagery and rolling rhythm of this is finely tuned to capture our inner most imagination. Thank you :)

Keep on sketching until the poet ebbs every bit of perils, injustice, agony from this world. Free verses draw pictures on observations, strategies, realities, history, hopes of the world, dreams of those living and dead. Writing is liberation of mind both for writer and the reader.

The dead can't write poetry. Only the living.

First foe or enemy means the self.

dear Sami... the poetry of life... free to dream...
to see a train against the sky and imagine being
reunited with memories. Walking along a Creek
with stepping stones and the melody of songbirds
in treetops. To love with abandon all that life can
freely give. Lovely poetry. Pat

You too. Gracie Millee.
"panhandling for hexed meanings, wriggling out of muses' spheres..."
yes, poetry doesn't always have to come in nicely tied and wrapped packages of rhyme and perfect meter. but can still attain the purpose, with engines at full tilt, and with reckless abandon that is somehow controlled chaos. Love this one...but then of course I would..being a free verser myself...

Excellent verse my friend. I've always felt freeverse takes a lot more than standard poetry in rhyme. Its more about flow of words than rhythm and to those who have a story and emotion as well as you devise here, it works wonderfully.
