Erase

Erase

A Poem by Sami Khalil
"

An old poem of mine I found and forgot to post.

"

    {Erase} By Sami Khalil

Individuals and nations can be condemned or praised due to their actions, past and present. A free and just nation is paramount.

For many a time, and times of much gentle regards

Of said nations upon rummage and bells of mourn

And let this oddity shudder at sacred flames’ sight

The ruins of which curdle feelings of set forth scorn.

Yet this prejudice of time wrought to worldly avail

When heaps upon woodland graves haplessly yield

And moldering bodies in silent neglect to bevy decay

At the coming of light, crowned hills as far as afield.

Erase, erase their sire resurrected from presence high

Forth to eternity where trials kept in keepsake scrolls

Erase, erase the winding of time and stagger of death

Encumbering subtle fevers to be in grave ward holes.

For many a time, and times of much gentle regards

Of said man upon our rummage and bells of mourn.

Wow! Thank you for sharing your story and for the visit. Glad you like it..
How sad how many
Lives were sacrificed
in the war...

And they become
historical memories
hero's all over the
world as we respect
them and pray for
the families.

Much happened
when I wasn't born
it even makes me
think of pearl harbor
it is very fascinating
And sad also.

But no one would
be here if is wasn't
for history,

And the many brave souls
and the many ancestors
that gave their lives for
us and God and their
country called freedom.

Thank You for sharing
the this powerful heart
wrenching piece.

Oh how i love the voice in here... it rings as a collective unified legion speaking as one. If the past could speak to us and whisper the folly we collectively are doomed to repeat!!! The screams, gnashed teeth and disdain they would have for sacrifices given to waste. The lessons of the final are the ones that were needed a'fore there ends were cast. the rhythm and rhyme are superb in this write as well as the cadence and flow. that is what the Bunny sees and he likes this one indeed

Your poem is written in an open-ended way, so that it could refer to something as long ago as black slavery and the massacre of native americans thru disease & other malice . . . or your message could address recent mass shootings, the norm being once a week in this country, and ravaging hispanic families at our southern border, to name a mere few. This country has a bad habit of white washing these sins even as a fair portion of the population still holds discriminatory views that are pretty extreme. This whitewashing is so well expressed in the word "erase"! (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

We look back on history, as you write, "For many a time, and times of much gentle regards" but with the "The ruins of which curdle feelings of set forth scorn." Yet, do we learn from that history we look upon with scorn? The world looks back and condemns those dark days, but seems not to see the repeating darkness which will again, in future generations, bring condemnation no less stark than your words:

"When heaps upon woodland graves haplessly yield; And moldering bodies in silent neglect to bevy decay; Erase, erase the winding of time and stagger of death."

So wonderful to come back across your jaw-dropping strokes...
The entirety of the poem comes to climax with...

"When heaps upon woodland graves haplessly yield
And moldering bodies in silent neglect to bevy decay"

Then after the dirtiness of pulling ourselves out of the graves we crave release from...

Without the past we would not have what we have today, but was every brutality necessary?
Best to keep to civility, write it down...
Remember...

But remembering does not make a thing great, or remembered...

Only sacrifice...

All true. Thank you again.
A thoughtful and timely write, Sami. Wars kill so many innocents. The repetition of the word "erase" is very effective in the third stanza. Well written. Lydi**
