Starlight, Candlelight     by Sami Khalil

An English sonnet…Little romance

Never is a howler, joyful at night

Calm as starlight, twining two together

Cradling up by careened warm candlelight

Batting away those sparks, beyond measure.

What hums through hollow rooms echo across

Undulated utterances bursting forth

Sermonize no more when lovers crisscross

Rebellion ignited like “July Fourth.”

Twisting neon is no match to the flares

Fireworks that glitter in ink and blood

Not to shine is of man’s saddest affairs

Pertinacious are those who bloom and bud.

As light speaks of color, love speaks of aromas

While music holds the notes slipping through commas.

love and all of its complexities. a soulful write, very skillfully told. some great words herein. to live is to love. let us hope that the stars and candles never go out - for if they do then what reason do we have?
fabulous accompanying pic well suited.

Interesting words, Khalil. I have read it through a few times to discern better your meaning, and think I am getting there.
One point of contention, however…if you’re going to call it an English sonnet, we must adapt the spelling of the word ‘color’. I jest of course!
Wonderful poetry, bardman.

Hi Khalil
a lovely sonnet, with subtle sensual overtones that light up the scene...."Rebellion ignited by July 4th"...
the "flares" are up, an entwine of love and desire..."love speaks of aromas"....the scent of pure passion!
Very well written...I like it!!!

These days we all crave light. Love has the magical power to use the light available and create its own beautiful light. Haunting image and lovely words.

Two lovers can enjoy the Starlight outside and the Candlelight inside batting the sparks of love inbetween.
Some can be the rebels that declared independence day on July the 4th. with fireworks in the sky .
We all need the light, love and music that goes within commas or without.
