Lake Michigan

Lake Michigan

A Poem by Sam Phillips

Lake Michigan

The only Halloween I ever loved was spent at the bottom of Lake Michigan.  I watched with desire as the wolves stalked their prey. As the cold whipped up from the waves. I never looked back at what I had left. The collection of that cities lights, begging to bring me back to anonymity. I know it won't ever be the same. Why would I want that?  I stagnate myself in a time of mediocrity. No. I'll continue on. Nothing is certain it never is. But hopefully, hopefully one day I'll sit with you and laugh.
