child of the earth

child of the earth

A Poem by Samantha Tamburello

i am a child of the earth

born of the soil with the stars in my eyes.

born, feeding the dirt with my cries.

my melodic cries synchronized with the birds’ song,

and the tune of my birth went on and on.

i grew leaves as appendages, feeding my peers,

the giving tree of sorts, an asset to anyone near.

the rain drenches me softly, no reason to hide

when you are a child of the earth there is no inside.

my bare feet sloshing through the fresh muck,

a fossil for my children’s children to pluck.

i’m fed from the sun, i need not other nutrients,

the light and warmth are powerful for a reason.

i am a child of earth, not here to harm anyone,

maybe if there were more of me, we could all become one.
