I Want to Say I'm Sorry

I Want to Say I'm Sorry

A Poem by savesthedaynj

When you say
it, it flops like
a dead fish on a
counter
top bloodied
and bludgeoned
on a pure
white chopping board.
Hack away
at what never
belonged to you in
the first place
cause you claim
ownership
now.

Gil to gullet
you find it
easy to just
slice into the
tender pink
insides so
raw and untouched
before. You
want to own it
but it was never
offered up to be
owned by you
or anyone else.

"I want to
say I'm sorry
for splattering
sanguinary slop
on your fine
dining area. It's
such a mess
I've made. I
want to cleanse
this counter and make
it sparkle like before
I ever brought this red
herring into your home."

But you don't.
