Against the Wall

Against the Wall

Against the Wall

Lined up against the wall

When the revolution came

Few knew when it began

Scattered small patches of fog

Growing until the horizon obscured

Was nowhere to be found

So quietly it came on

like dusk settling upon eyes closed

We've been bought and sold

In tattered velvet covered chains

Bound to iron shot that drowns

With no resource left to make bond

Our children are starved

In stomach and in mind

For want of food and wisdom

While the fake-people fiddle and laugh

They know the bottom line

Is the bottom line and pay

For our fake-leaders to blind us

And fill our ears with distraction

So we acquiesce as we queue

Up against the wall for a slice of cake

Violence isn't done just by the gun

It's couched in liberty withheld

If money is speech protected

Our emptying accounts leave us mute

While we lose our shelter and our means

And blame who we're told are those others

How much longer shall we abide

Our denigration and our hunger

To roust ourselves from against the wall

And with full-throat reclaim “We the people...”
