Strawberries~

Strawberries~

A Poem by NoneOfYourBusiness akaKITTY KUTABAREakaCandyPole
"

~does my eye for your eye make the whole world sigh?~

"

"Strawberries." he said

"I want strawberries."

I uncurled my fingers from my palm

a boy hiding in a berry patch against the reflection of the glass

and I saw past the monster with the stained lips

into a heart beating against a future etched in unspeakable violence

and I leaned my head into my palms

as they pushed the fluids into the tubes

I didn't watch his blue eyes watching us as they turned the color of onyx

the taste of strawberries on my tongue

death in the back of my throat;

justice tasted bitter

unripened

nothing rebakes girl bread once it has been broken

nothing brings back the dead

not even the death of a another

~an eye for an eye turns the human mind out~ inside~
And yet . . . . when the atrocity bleeds impossible to cauterize. . . .do we watch with morbid glee as the fluids are pumped into the monster’s veins behind a glass partition in an act of equalized justice. . . .this is where morality and ethics become tricky . . . .

A poignant look at punishment by death... ever more so by your twist of a word often used in a far more cheerful manner... strawberries. Hard to think of the fruit the same again... but I will because they're delicious... ;)

But this write... truly gripping from start to finish... the meaning of justice placed on a set of bloody scales, wavering back and forth...

After taking most of the day to ponder this, I simply must rise to my feet from my comfortable cafe seat and give you an ovational applause.

It is bittersweet when punishment is meted on the one who took from you someone who can never be replaced.
"Closure" is a total myth, there is no closure, no healing of the pain; only Time. Time that softens the edges of the agony, but stil there are the forever scars.
You write with great heart and understanding of something society does not like to think about.

Hello Selene,

A very fluent and incredible write. I do wish I was poetic as you able to just read something come out with the perfect line in only the way Selene can. That in itself is quite impressive. I envy you.....luckily you don't live near me......

Regards,

Matthew

I struggle with this subject intensly....it is one of the reasons I write, to release the dark with the light in my writings and not on humanity....beautiful write :)

Written with intensity. It is a difficult subject, an eye for an eye........do we kill the offender, sometimes justice needs to be served in such a way, and I for one feel that, but really are we better than the offender, God said "Thou shall not kill", but we do, in many ways, and then of course we have executed and imprisoned innocent people..........
But your writing is always thought provoking.
