Liberating Alice~

Liberating Alice~

A Poem by NoneOfYourBusiness akaKITTY KUTABAREakaCandyPole

Strapped to ashen clouds

Alice, was lifted from underland

cinched  tightly by  inflexible societal threads, austere and bland, her genetics rebelled

her bound wrists burst with scintillate seeds, became wormwood upon touching the atmosphere

tied up in samite,  lilac ribbons, her saffron ringlets

perfectly coiffed into a story book updo, uncurled, flared  with lutescent flames, her lambent soul competing with the sun

the orchid sash at her waist tightened with the compressed pressure of the cobalt sky

until her floating rib punctured the indentured corset, and curved moth wings from her sides

her slippers of pearl brocade collapsed with broken bones inside dainty ankles

raining down in ivory spheres and arrow heads to coat the surface of the world, to embed in the dreams of mankind

rich chocolate eyes bled cocoa, the atmosphere leaned in deep to taste the sweet imagination of a human child

and her wormwood arms punctuated the crescendo in ripples of whispering leaves, licorice smile a ruby eclipse in the sky, her emancipation a shooting star in reverse

Strapped to clouds that carried her to the moon

Alice was lifted into Wonderland

From underland to wonderland this reminds me of being born from the earth, living life and then passing away into the heavens. What a way to go as Alice did a shooting star in reverse while raining down into mankind's dream. I think I love that part the best.

You have taken a familiar subject and exalted her into a realm of surreal beauty and human longing. You have astonishing power of going from the specific to the universal, and thereby touch a cord in many souls. Reading your poetry is like a journey into magic and a beckoning world that was lost a long time ago.

'raining down in ivory spheres and arrow heads to coat the surface of the world, to embed in the dreams of mankind' - wonderful!

You so enchant me with the richness of your vocabulary and the kaleidoscope of images you flood onto the page... This seemed to be such a clever take on the fantasy images of the pristine Alice and the fragile and flawed nature of Wonderland...

Lewis Carroll was interesting man...

I love your creative twist on the stuff we all take as gospel daily. You seem to dig deeper and farther than most and I must say, you wield a mean shovel. This was wickedly original creating a more surreal picture than the original. Nice work.

I hope in this Wonderland there are no clocks tick tocking our lives away.

This is phenomenal, Selene. I'm such an Alice fan and you have certainly done her whole image justice in this superbly creative piece. Loved it!
