Moss~

Moss~

A Poem by NoneOfYourBusiness akaKITTY KUTABAREakaCandyPole

I have found a thousand words

in a patch of moss

a curve of letters wiggling under my bare feet

Like ivy

they find their hold

The s is the most insistent

sibilant leaves throwing off flowers

imprinting my calves

snaking another gripping story up to my hips

And I find myself in front of an audience

their attention around a monument in the sand

Pinecones roll around

popping

in a controlled burn

the smoke my gown, pearls and ash

such a contrast to the vibrant green

of moss

I get lost in detail

as jade ink fills in my hollow bones

and my camouflage is complete;

It must be the wind through the trees

or the unusual configuration of tears from my eyes

that brings them

with baskets

with open palms

They come to the burial mound

to collect the  violets from my cheeks

to pluck the moss from my branching spine

Horse looks for grass under pine needles

I, reluctant

unbend from ground to sky

mount

ride

moss stories trailing us on the wind, with pollen;

He asked if I fear the woods

and I said no

my fear is in that one day

I will give my heart lead

and never leave

Oh...my...God...
Selene! This is outright one of the most beautiful things I've ever seen from your ever-fertile mind. I cannot tell you how moved I am by the words and images, the moss-green magic you have conjured.
As for the last lines... enough to bring tears to the brim:
He asked if I fear the woods
and I said no
my fear is in that one day
I will give my heart lead
and never leave

Ok so I see a woman in a white gown being burnt at the side of a tree and to free herself from the pain she is watching the slugs leave paths in the moss. She is a witch,of course. The horse comes to rescue her spirit like astrial projection and takes hr deep into the woods where the worst thing she knows is her memories.Do I Win?

The picture reminds of my the nymphs that live in the trees deep in the woods. I think the poem you have created from this picture is just amazing, as you unravel a mystical world of love and adventure to us. Absolute stunning write.

Words are things of power, but only because of who they come from. Some have power over many some have power only over one, but that power can be complete. The heart that holds the reigns decides how fast the horse runs (I know, I'm mixing metaphors!) and from that heart they carry the power. Wonderful piece here

I just read this for the third time, and it's still too beautiful for me to say anything.

A pleasing sense of mythology here, a kind of funeral in Paradise...riding away from the damp coolness and the popping heat into another world...
